this wall and a length of stong hempen rope with a nooze on end was passed round the cows horns and fastened firmly on the other side of the wall. When the cows were to be let out you just opened the nooze out bit and slipped it off the cow's horns. Some people have names on the cows, such as Daisy, buttercup, etc and it is said that cows give more milk if you sing a soft low song while milking. A custom people have when finished milking is to dil their thumb in the milk and make the sign of the cross on the cow's side. I believe it is to thank God for the Gift of the milk.
