    Oh must I in vain adore thee.
    In 1733, however sorrow shadowed his life when his wife died. O'Carolan expresses in grief in the following lines:-
    Desponding, sick, exhausted with my grief.
    Awhile the founts of sorrow cease to follow.
    In vain - I rest not - sleep brings no relief.
    Cheerless, companionless,
    I wake to woe.
    Nor birth nor beauty shall again allure,
    Nor fortune win me another bride.
    Alone I'll wander and alone endure
    Till death restores me to my dear-one's side
