- Hedge SchoolThere was a hedge school near Reilly's field at Rosmead. The school was built in the year 1824. It was built of mud and clay. The master's name was Murphy. He was a native of Donegal. The pupils wrote on paper with feathers. About 100 pupils used to come to school there. The master taught in the school until 1830. He was paid 7 pounds and 18 shillings a year.
