- Local Ruins
There are the ruins of a castle in a field, beside the house where my Grandfather(Patrick Cooney) lived.
One of the walls is sixteen feet thick. My fathertold me it was owned by Lady Nugent. There was a cave leading from the castle to a field called the bush field. It was nearly a mile long but it is not to be seen at this present time.
In a certain field near our house it is said that in olden times there was a brick yard. It was not found out until one day when a man was ploughing he came across a number of bricks, and when he looked about he found a few acres of the field was of brick. These bricks were of great use during the building of our dwelling house and farm houses. The outline of said brick-yard is there yet. In the next field there is an old lime kiln where lime was burned long ago. There is a lime stone quarry in the same field.(continues on next page)- Collector
