There was once an ould man who did live in the east.
And his trade it was cutting green broom.
Green broom.He had but one son and his name it was Jack,
And he stopped in bed until noon, good noon
And he stopped in bed until noon.2
The ould man arose and to this son goes
And sore he'd set fire to his room, good room.
If he would not arise and sharpen his knives
And be off to the work to cut broom, green broom.3
Jack arose and put on his clothes,
And stamped on the floor with foam great foam
Must I now humble down to cut brooms, green brooms,
Must I now humble down to cut brooms.4
Jack came to a castle where ladies did dwell
A castle of honour and fame, great fame,
He knocked at the gate so neat and complete
