The process consisted in having a wooden hoop five inches deep and 2 1/2 feet in diameter and covered with a goat skin. The goat skin was steeped in fresh lime and water until the hair removed. Then the skin was taken out and stretched and pulled and while wet pulled tight over the hoop and the end tucked in over the hoop and nailed with small tacks and hung up to dry. this was used for cleaning oats. The oats was filled into it, and let fall down on the sheets and while falling the wind blew the chaff away.
