  1. In the year 1839 a great grand Uncle of mine John Conlon died of some unknown disease. Local Doctors could not find out what was wrong with him. One of them a Dr. Cornwall of Killucan wanted to use the knife on him when he was dead, but his friends would not allow him. When he was buried his friends were afraid the Doctor would rise him. It was a common thing in that day. They watched the grave for three weeks in the churchyard of Griffinstown. One night they heard noise and Roger Cole fired a shot and it bent the top bar of the gate and it can be seen to this day.
