- Basket Making.
Baskets were made in this district long ago. Some were made from rods and others from rushes. Rods from sally trees were those usually used in basketmaking because they were not as likely to break as other rods. First the rods were boiled in order that they might be bended easily, then they were twisted and woven into baskets.
Baskets of different sizes and shapes were made.
Some were used for taking eggs or butter to the markets.
Others were used for removing turn from the bog. The baskets made from rushes were not as strong as those made from rods.
