- (continued from previous page)would put a bottom in a saucepan or a tin can or bath (?) or if a sweep called he would sweep the chimney.
- Travelling people call very often to our home. They are very poor and people buy small articles from them to help them. They have camps of their own and they sleep in them. They travel in bands and they do not be badly off for food. They usually camp near a farmer's house or where rabbits are plentiful.
Julia Gavin told me that they get all the pictures and badges from Scotland The best known of them are Gavins, Greens and Ratigans. Those people are not welcomed now-a-days for people have enough to do to feed themselves. Travelling folk come once or so to our district. They don't bring news now-a-days but long ago they used to bring news to people from other parts of the countrys. People get the Travelling folk to work when the come round this district.- Collector
