- (continued from previous page)story. He said that there is a fairy in the trunks of a tree near Gaynors house in the townland of Grange, Ballinalack, Co. Westmeath. The fairy is out about 12 o'clock every night, and begins to cry, and if he hears anyone coming he goes up to the top of the tree, and when the person goes away the fairy goes down into the trunk of the tree and never comes back until the next night. The people say that if you see him not to go near him, because if you do he will not let you sleep for weeks. He will come to the window and begin to cry, and if you get up to hunt him away he will set a trap and try to kill you.
