  1. One day about fifty years ago a man named Tom Finglass went to the fair of Oldcastle to sell a pig. It was in the month of December and the days were short.
    Tom got benighted coming home as travelling in those days was slow and his mode of conveyance was but a donkey and cart.
    When he was about halfway home he met a little man in a black coat. He addressed him with the usual "goodnight" and then said "Tom Finglas, are you not
