  1. A great number of the old customs which were practiced in Ireland have died out.
    One of the old customs which is still practiced, is on St. Stephen's day, most of the men and boys of the country go round to the houses to dance and sing and play, it is called "hunting the wren". Most people give them a couple of pence each.
    Another custom is to eat a turkey or a goose on Christmas day. New Years day is also kept as a holiday. Most people send presents or Christmas cards to their friends at Christmas time.
    Pancakes are eaten on Shrove Tuesday, because it is the last day before Lent. Ash Wednesday the first
