- MAY DAYIt is the custom for people in this locality not to give away milk on May-day. Some people think they would loose the butter through some charm.They would not give away a match or coal of fire to their neighbours if they wanted to light a fire, afraid they would give away their luck, nor they would not throw out the dust, when they would sweep the floor, afraid they would throw out their luck.People wash their face with the dew of the grass before the sun rises, to prevent them from having a headache all the year.It is the custom to decorate a May-bush with flowers and ribbons, and scatter flowers out side the door, and decorate an altar before the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
ST BRIGID'S DAYThere is a well in Killare about four miles from us called St Brigid's well. The people go to visit it on St Brigid's Day. They do the Sations of the Cross and say prayers at the well and they also bring water(continues on next page)- Collector
