  1. People in olden times had three meals daily. The meals were breakfast, dinner, and supper. Breakfast consisted of porriage and buttermilk and dinner consisted of potatoes and salt, and buttermilk. At supper they had oaten-bread and milk. In olden times they had no tea. People worked each morning before breakfast. They were out before day light, men were out ploughing with lanterns and lights in the morning before beakfast. Long ago people were very healthy and lived to be a big age. People did not eat potatoes at every meal, they were only eaten at dinner with salt and buttermilk. People set the table against the wall with a basket of potatoes on the centre of the floor. When the table was not in use they used to hang it up on the ceiling. Oaten-bread was made of boiling water and meal, then it was cut in squares and baked in a griddle. Well-to-do people used meat twice a week. The majority of the people were not able to afford it. It was usually bacon that was eaten except on feasts days. Fish was eaten whenever it would be got, it was usually caught by a bucket because there was not any fishing rods.
