One of the principal crops sown at home on my farm is the potato. Some times the number does increase and other times it does lessen. Before the drills are opened the ground is ploughed and harrowed. Then the drills are opened and the manure is put out and spread in the furrows. Some times if there is only a small piece of land for potatoes, ridges are made instead of drills. There are spades used in making ridges. The spades are bought in a shop but long ago the farmers made their own spades. The names of the potatoes are these, "The Ker-pinks" Black Champions" "American Rose". "Arn Banners". The Kerpinks Irish Queens Presidents and epicures are the potatoes that give the best return in this district.- Collector
