- In the Derries of Ballykeeran about 2 miles from Athlone there resided two old men called "Gabhann Thick" and "Dún Óg". Every year they went to Kilcock for the harvest. One particular year Dún Óg went before his companion. On leaving he said "put the spoon in the hasp and pull the door after you" meaning to say, fasten this door securely. When he was about three days in Kilcock, Dún Óg was surprised to see "Gabhann Thick" limping along with the door on his back. "What made you take the door with you?" "Ara, a Mhic," said Gabhann Thick, meekly didn't you tell me to pull the door after me.Betty Chambers,
