- Hallowe'en is on the last night of October. The children have great sport on that night playing tricks. They put an apple in a tub of water and try to catch it in their mouths without putting their hands to it. Then they got three saucers and put clay on one of them water on another and a ring on the other and the person that goes to the water is supposed to go across the sea and the person that goes to the clay is supposed to die soon and the person that goes to the ring is supposed to be married. There is a brack made for the supper on that night and there is a ring put in it and it is said that the person that gets the ring will be married before that time twelve months. The young boys and girls used to place their boots in the form of the letter T. and used to say the following words. "I place my boots in the form of a T. hoping(continues on next page)
