- Some forty years ago burns were cured in this district by means of a 'mankeeper.'
A 'mankeeper' is a little creature like a worm, but thinner and is to be found in a river.
The people of this district used to get a mankeeper and lick it with their tongue. Likewise they would lick the burn, and by so doing they would cure it. When they lick the mankeeper once the cure remains on their tongue.
There is a very old cure for warts in this district. A small piece of beef is rubbed on the wart. The beef is buried and as the beef rots the warts wears away.- Collector
