- Formerly marriages were carried out in a different manner to what they are to-day. Looking back at these marriage customs the same procedure was not carried out as it now is. In the country districts a match was made by the parents of the boy or girl who was to be married. It was usually brought about through a third party on behalf of the bride to be. They would go to the girls parents and speak in favour of the man they were recommending for the girl of the house. The whole marriage buisness would be discoursed up and down.
