- (continued from previous page)Monastery there was a grave yard which is now closed up. There were two Dominican priests hanged beside St John's Church about two hundred years ago, both their names being O'Farrells. They were hanged from a tree.
One of the oldest ruins is that of the old Church in Ballymacormack graveyard. There was no glass at the time of its being built and the openings or slips took the place of windows. It was once a monastery and a Church. There is a holy water font still to be seen and if you dip a pin in the font and put the holy water on a wart it will cure the wart.
There was a night school where Chapel Lane now stands and Thomas M Goey taught there and the chaplain was a Father James Reynolds. Grown up people attended the school.
The first national school in Longford was on the left side of Killashee street and the school was called Boher na Mona (The bog road).(continues on next page)- Collector
