- About thirty years ago there was a marriage in the parish of Drumlish. The man's name was Pat Courtney and the woman's name was Katie Mallon. The two ran away to a neighbour's house, the people all wondered where they had gone.
They came back next day to their own home and they were married at the end of a month. The people called them runaways.
They had a great wedding in the bride's house. There were a lot of bandbeggers at it.
It was the best marriage I ever heard of.
They walked to the church as there were few cars at that time. The wedding party danced in a neighbours house when they came back and remained there till they got their dinner.
I was told this story by my mother.Pat Flynn, Drumlish Hill, Co.Longford. 13th Nov. 1937- Collector
