“There are three tailors in this district...”
(continued from previous page)by one tailor named John Kavanagh of Aughakine. Kavanagh travelled from one house to another supplying their needs. On one occasion an old woman asked Kavanagh to put a patch on a new sack giving him a torn bag to cut the patch from, but Kavanagh who got insulted for being offered a job beneath him, cut up the new sack in stripes with which he repaired the torn bag. When the woman saw what he had done. She exclaimed, "what in Gods holy name have you done" Kavanagh replied "I repaired the one that was most in need mam. On another occasion Kavanagh finished working in a farmers house before dinner hour. When he arrived in the next house it was after dinner hour. He began to pace up and down the road leading from one house to the other and pretending to be looking for some lost article. The man of the house seeing him in this attitude inquired of him what he lost, or if he could help him recover it.
