   There was no light in Fitzsimons. Suddenly the kitchen door of the house opened and an apron-ful of cinders were thrown out on the road. This did not frighten the two, and they kept on talking. Before they felt a sod of earth was thrown from one side of the ditch across their heads. They hurriedly left for home.

   Mary Kelly, mother of John Kelly, Cullinmore Dring, Granard was one Sunday at home from mass. She stopped at home to mind the house and cattle. While mass was in progress a strange woman came to the door. Mrs Kelly did not know her, but, on the woman saying she was hungry she let her in. The strange woman sat at the
