She then cleaner them with a cleaner or shaver, which was shaped like a cow's horn, and could not be made in Ireland. This removed all the green skin from the rods.
She next tied up all the rods for making the fancy baskets into bundles of thirty, and put them into a pot of boiling magenta to colour them. When they were sufficiently coloured they were taken out, and stuck down into a basket board for standers.
