13th June, 1938. Houses in olden times were built from mud and stones, and roofed with wood, straw or rushes. A great many of them had only one room, and it served as kitchen and bedroom. There was only one fireplace, and that was situated close to a back or side wall. It was the custom to have the fire on the hearth. A wooden served in many cases for a chimney.
