- (continued from previous page)connected with it that there is a secret tunnel to Graine's fort which is situated in the town land of Ballingall in the Parish of Granard Co Longford. The secret entrance leaves from the Moat to the fort and there all weapons of war were kept for safety in olden times.It was there Diarmuid and Graine hid from Finn.

Chandlery was carried on by James Garvey who lived in the present house occupied by Mr Ledwith. Garvey made soap, tallow candles called dips and mould candles. Dye-ing
Dyeing was carried on very extensively by the Tormey family. They lived in the house now occupied by Miss Monford. The works were at the rear. Tanning
Tanning was carried on at the back of the present Medical Hall (Irwin's)
