- The name of the townland in which I live is Derragh. It is in the parish of Abbeylara. It is in the barony of Granard. There are fifteen families living in it. There are sixty-eight people in the townland. The family name most common is "Galligan". All the houses in it are thatched except two or three. The townland got its name from a great forest of oak trees that was in it long ago. There are four people over seventy living in the townland. Their names are - Mrs Masterson, Michael Galligan, Patrick Brady, Peter Reilly. They can all tell stories in English. None of them can tell stories in Irish. There were a lot of houses in the townland in olden times. There are thirteen or fourteen(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
