Once upon a time a man was going home after playing cards, he came to a high ditch and when he crossed the gate he saw a man playing cards by himself, the other man commended to play with him, a card fell and the man stooped down to lift it up and he saw the devils foot, he knew it by the hoof. The old Catholic church of Longford was built at the end of the street. The present Cathedral is built on part of the site, at one time the parish Priest named OBeirne and a protestant rector were brothers. The parish Priest was buried in the old Chapel and the rector became became Protestant Bishop of Meath. The Protestant(continues on next page)
