- On the Battery Road is the Military Barracks. It is said that the place is haunted and at a certain hour of the night a soldier on horse-back rides (the) around the square. Further on is the Cross-Roads which is called the "Red Cow". Some years ago there was a Public house there. It was closed on account of the soldiers and civilians quarrelling there. By order of a Councillor who lived in the big house on the side of the road. Straight on the road which leads to Drumlish. It was here what is known as a Land War took place in the days of the Land-Lords. The late Lord Granard with Police and Soldiers went down to evict his Tenants but were met by his Parishioners with scythes and forks to stop them only for the Priests and the Late Father Comrfy P.P. inteferfered the Eviction(continues on next page)
