- We have a churn at home, it is an end over end churn. There are two handles on it. It is a very old churn. The butter is made twice weekly in the Summer and once a week in Winter. Long ago horse churns were used. A horse was yoked outside and a spindle going through the wall and a sort of a barrel inside with large beaters inside it. You would see the mark of the horse at the present day.
