  1. Our Cows.
    The animals on our farm consist of a cat, a terrier, a sheep-dog, a carrier pidgeon, and 30 common pidgeons, about 50 hens, and two cocks, a sow, eight fat pigs, and five smaller ones, two mares, and a foal, a horse, and a pony, and an ass, nine calves, six yearlings, and nine two year olds, and eight cows.
    Some of our cows have names such as Nancy, Polly, the Little Cow, and the Red Cow, the "Motley" Cow and the dexter.
    Our cow-house is roofed with iron and the floor is made of stone, and there is a loft on it. There are bales in our cow-house used for baling up the cows. There is partitions between the cows and they are fed with hay which is pitched down from the loft.
    The bales are not made locally. When calling the cows in they say
    "Hi on out of that" "How", "How,"
    or "chew on".
    They are baled up around the neck with the two bars which are fastened with a wire.
