Ar an leathanach seo
- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)the bushes. Over the limestone colm was spread. Colm was like coal, and was got from Neath in Wales. Over the colm limestone was again placed. This was kept up until the kiln was full. A man was appointed to spread the colm, and to serve the customers who came to buy the lime.
At the bottom of the kiln was an arch. Out through this arch the burnt limestones poured. The kilns were kept lighting always[?]. Two men were appointed to watch the kilns at nightime.
People came from the north of the county principally to buy the lime. It was sold at one and two pence a barrel. Many of the people who came to buy the lime used come the night before and sleep by the kilns all night.
About thirty years ago brickmaking, was carried on at Scallons of Drinagh Yellow mud used in this industry was found near at hand. This mud was procured and kept wet. It was pounded and hammered into a thick paste. This paste was cut and squared into bricks. The bricks were piled loosely one upon another and burned.
