  1. Joe Benson of Rathjarney, Killinick, is the only tailor that now resides in the parish. He tailors for the people of the district, and also for the Civic Guards. When the Royal Irish Constabulary were stationed in Killinick he also made uniforms for them.
    Up to seventy years ago there were six tailors in the locality. They were : Messrs. Sinnott, Lennon, Kenny, Finnegan, Connors and Hayes. These tailors did not stock cloth and persons requiring a suit supplied the material. Mr. Lennon travelled from house to house when wanted, but the others worked at their own homes. Joe Benson was the first local tailor to use a sewing machine. All work by the other tailors war all hand sewn.
    The implements the tailor uses are:
    thimbles, needles, scissors, irons, and chalk. A board that he uses to press trousers is known as a tailors goose.
    Mrs. Maloney of Rathjarney used to make shirts for the neighbours, out of linen and flannelette. From local accounts
