- First of all the sowers fill their bags with cut potatoes or "scelens" as they are called. Then the farmer puts one of the cut potatoes at the start of the first drill and sprinkle it with holy water; this is to keep the blight away. Then the sowers make holes in the ground with their "diggers" or sowing-sticks, which are at least eleven inches in length. Then they put in the potatoes and cover them with manure.
The last potato is also sprinkles with holy-water and the sprinkler is buried with the potatoes.- Collector
