- "Four men out to work sir" is an outdoor game which is played in the following manner.A number of children must get together on one side of the street and the leader stays on the other side by herself. The children get together and think of some thing which pleases them all such as shipping or painting or some other occupation. Then they go across the road saying
"three or four or five or any other number out of work sir."
Then the leader asks "what is your trade sir".
Children - "Anything you like sir."
Leader - Turn around and do it sir. Then the children do the actions and the leader must guess what the action means.
When the leader finds out what they are doing they run back to the other side again and if she catches anyone before they reach the wall she is out.- Collector
