    In those lean times the poor people of this area lived mostly on barley-bread + buttermilk. It so happened that the corn crop was good and that would have been the great saving point - if our Rulers + benefactors of the day - hadnt bought up + exported our corn leaving our people at home to die of hunger or eke out a miserable existence on roots + greens of all sorts.
