- 277My father told me that in the year 1897 a great wind swept the land. It commenced early in the night and did a great deal of damage. It carried away galvanised hay-sheds and blew down houses and carried away their roofs. It blew down a great many trees also, and caused the death of two men who were out in it. My Dad also remembers a great thunderstorm which occurred in July one year. He and some other men were thinning turnips when it started.
They kept on thinning until the saw a ball of lightning falling from the sky(continues on next page)- Collector
