    lives were lost except one German officer, and he survived.
    A steam boat was sunk by a German submarine, during the Great War. It was carrying a cargo of tinned beef. It was all salvaged when the steamers struck the rocks. It was all taken to New Ross by another boat. The tinned beef was re-tinned and placed in Mr. Hearn's store in John Street, which was burned down some years ago.
