  1. The Saint after whom the district
is called is supposed to have been
St. Ugadain, who is further believed to have been a nephew of St. Patrick.
Except in the name there is no
evidence of his existence and his
memory is not commemorated in any way.
There is a well called St. Patrick's well close by, and some years ago people did make visits with in the nature of pilgrimages, but these have long since ceased to be.
This well is situated in Joyce's field.
