There was a fair held in Ballycowan long ago. Gooseberry Sunday was the Sunday before the fair. People used to go from all parts to that fair There were two public houses in the place where the fairs were to be held. The men used to be cutting blackthorn sticks a month before the fair and putting them in the chimneys to harden. Factions used to come from other places to fight there. Someone used to say It's twelve o clock now and not a blow struck yet. There was a green place where the fair was held. Some people used to be afraid and they used to hide The name of the place where they used to fight was the fair green of Ballycowan. The fair was held in July 26th about a hundred years ago. The fair was from the Lock bridge(continues on next page)- Collector
