  1. the fair of Ballycowan
    The fair of Ballycowan was held on the 1st Monday after Gooseberry Sunday which was the first Sunday of August. There used to be tents erected for the sale of gooseberries oranges, sweets, cakes, and lemonade also spring boards for dancing upon. Crowds collected on that Sunday, including Pipers Fiddles, Fluters, tin whistlers etc. The people used enjoy the day immensely, some staying the whole night singing, dancing and enjoying themselves until the fair opened on the next morning, which was then considered one of the best in the county for the sale of horses, cattle, sheep< Pigs and Poultry.
