- How Moystown got its name. The townland where I live is called Moystown. There is a very large estate in Moystown with about six hundred acres of lan owned by Mr. Waller. This estate is bordered on two sides by two rivers, the Brosna and the Shannon. This is how it got the name Moystown. When the Normans came over to Ireland, they had a fight with the Irish on the Shannon near Athlone. The Norman leader's name was Moy and he was killed and his body was found on the banks of the Shannon and it was buried in Moystown. The(continues on next page)
