A man named Martin Daly lived in Logg, a village on the south side of the hill of Cloghan.

    (continued from previous page)
There was a man named John Doorly (nicknamed Clap Doorly from the way he walked and the noise he made when walking) living in Stonestown Cloghan. He died aged 80 years about 10 years ago. He was authorised by members of Land League to shoot a certain policeman who had been stationed in Kilcormac Offaly and was stationed in Birr when Doorly was authorised to shoot him. Doorly went to Birr and shot whom he thought was the policeman on the street near where Egans public house now is. He shot the wrong man. He went off from Birr to Queenstown and thence to America where he remained for 14 years. He then returned to Stonestown and died there. This happened about 1882.
