    (1) If it rains on this day it will rain for forty days and forty nights.
    (2) St Swithin was very fond of (chil) school children and when he was dying he told them to bury him in the path through the grave-yard where the children used to go to school. When they had him buried they got sorry for what they were after doing and they went out to bury him in a better place as they thought but it started raining and kept raining for forty days and forty nights and they could not move him.
