    hated weed by the farmers. It is very difficult to banish as each little sprig of grass has to be picked up and burned. It covers whole field with a tangled mass of coarse grass that chokes up corn crops and root crops. When trying to pull it out of root crops it takes up the young plants as well as itself. It is almost impossible banish and impoverishes the land to a greater extent than any other weed. It is a common sight to see a farmer gathering it in heaps in the fields in Spring. Sometimes they burn it. Other times they cart it to the bog to make roads.
    The White root:-
    This is another weed, dreaded especially by gardeners. It produces a plant something like the red dead nettle. Each weed produces a mass of underground white roots each about 12 inches or more long. These roots a divided by rings into sections each about 1 inch long. The roots are easily broken and
