Since first I left my native hills,
In years 'Tis nigh two score
And twice again I've seen the rocks
That gird old Kerry's shore.
With tears, my aching eyes are dim
and oft' I breathe a prayer,
That I may see before I die,
The hills and valleys there.
"God save all here", I'd like to say
across some old half door.
"God save you kindly Sir" I'd hear
In Erin's Isle once more.

On Knockshegowna's slope I'd sit and ponder fairy lore.
I'd listen for the curlew's cry,
across the lonesome moor
Lisebryan's wood I'd see again
and distant Sopwell Hall
The Windy Gap it's twilight dance
has still for me its call
