“One winter's night long ago two men named Patrick and John Byrne were coming home from Carlow.”
(continued from previous page)on her he dropped dead. John saw nothing but his brother lying dead on the roadside.- One winter's night a man named Patrick Byrne was making his way home across a field at Graigue. He got a kind of a start and looked round. As he did so a black object appeared behind him. He started to run and if he did the black object was behind him still. As soon as he got to the gate leading out of the field he stumbled over it and fell. The black object was near him still. He got up and ran again. His house was not far away. When he got in and saw the light he fainted. Never did he go across that field again after night fall.
