- Around my district many home-made toys are often to be seen with the children. Those toys are well made and can be made easily.
'Tis often that I make a top or a kite.
During the months of spring home-made tops are in full swing as in every street of the town children "flog" their home-made tops up and down. The top is made from real hard wood well shaped, so as to balance it and a long thin spike driven through the centre of the wood.
The kite is another home-made toy to be seen here. It is made from two strong thin sticks, a piece of twine and a piece of strong paper. The sticks are put down on each other, making a cross and are tied in the centre. Then the paper is procured and is pasted to the sticks and is doubled round the sticks so as to make it the stonger.
