- Tre travellers still keep up the same custom as in olden times in our district. They are not very poor they seem very well dressed. They sell quart measures pint measures and half gallon measures. They also get linoleum by rail from Dublin and sell it in the town. When they come they are not very welcome. Some remain three weeks and others longer. They sleep in caravans out side the town. They are able to buy the best of food. They do not look for alms they look for old boots and clothes. They travel along in the caravans. They travel in families. The best known in this town are Walls and McCanns. They nearly always arrive on Fridays and on fair days. They bring no news to the town. The people do not go near them because they are very rough.
