The story is told that he took him through briars & sgeac bushes turfholes and quagmire that he jumped the Dereen, the Slaney and the Barrow and then left him half dead in the rath near his own house.
On account of all this the pooka's name was dreaded far & near. Still several plans were discussed & arranged to scare away the pooka & get the gold. But when the time came some of the crowd got afraid or pretended to be sick; or came too soon before the stone had started or too late after it had returned after quenching his thirst.
One Sunday evening after the game of handball was over at Roches piers about a dozen of the lads got together with Mark Mornin at their head - Mark was a jockey and could ride anything in the world.
